Visa Protocol Support

Visa protocol is used for communication with Point-of-Sale Terminals. The protocol defines the data mode and error recovery for the POS data. The protocol uses async half-duplex transmissions and supports the following modes:

Single-thread This mode supports single messages transferred from the remote terminal.
Multi-thread This mode supports several concurrent messages transferred from the remote device.
Data Capture This mode consolidates several smaller transmissions into a larger block before it is transferred to the other network.

A JBM exclusive mode (Real Transparent Async Mode) is also available. This mode transfers the complete protocol information to the attached device and is used when the Gateway will only perform the async conversion while the other (customer-supplied) device will provide the complete Visa protocol processing.

Transmission Support

Our equipment supports Visa terminals through a variety of computer network protocols, including:

  • Async
  • TCP/IP
  • UDP
  • X.25

With all of these modes, both the transport protocol (for example: X.25) is validated and the Visa protocol is processed. The Gateway will validate the LRC-8 and convert the valid data from Visa to the other selected protocol (for example: TCP/IP).

Terminal Support

There are different implementations of Visa protocol on vendor's terminal equipment. We have added support many of the common terminal devices, including:

  • Autogas
  • Concord
  • Data Card
  • Verifone Omni
  • Verifone Ruby
  • Verifone Zon

Custom modifications to the Visa protocol support can be quickly implemented for other types of equipment
