SNA Migration Example
The Gateway will route the data based on the incoming address.
In this example, the Gateway 530 emulates a terminal to the IBM
system, a host to the bisync and SNA/SDLC devices and a client to
the local Server. Data from the bisync system is converted to TCP/IP
and transmitted to the Server. Data from the 3270 terminal is sent
to the IBM host.
The Gateway converts the addresses for all
of the devices at the remote location. The Gateway maps the addresses so the host only has to
poll one PU at a location. This capability can reduce host overhead and minimize network
changes.
In this example, the Gateway routes the data at a local level between
the various devices and then finally converts it to a terminal emulation
for transmission to the remote host. As the Server applications
are completed, the 3270 controller and bisync devices will be eliminated.
The G530 will then continue to perform an IP to SNA conversion.
