The G500 at the host site emulates several terminals (in this example, Unisys Poll/Select). The data is converted to TCP/IP and sent through the network to another Gateway. The remote Gateway emulates a host and polls the attached terminals. The Gateways can map the addresses to many TCP addresses or to a single TCP address per location. With this second mode, the Gateways use internal addressing to route the data to the appropriate terminal.

This diagram illustrates the conversion of the Poll/Select data to TCP and then back to Poll/Select. The protocol is not tunneled through the frame relay connection, instead each of the Gateways provide full device emulation.
