JBM Electronics' Gateways support most
Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs). The Gateways are extensively used in networks to provide
conversion from the ATM's legacy protocols and the newer modern LAN and WAN protocols. The
Gateways provide an edge access conversion which preserves the bank's investment in ATM
terminals while saving line costs.
Protocol Support
The
following ATM protocols are supported by the Gateways:
| Async |
Sync |
SNA |
WAN |
| Visa
I and II
NCR Poll/Select
Unisys Poll/Select
(TC 500) |
Bisync
Contention (RJE)
Bisync 3270

X.25
Frame Relay |
Each
Gateway provides a different combination of port types and count.
The Gateway's port determines the protocols supported. This table
lists the protocol supported by each Gateway.
Operation
The Gateways provide complete host emulation for all of these protocols.
This support includes local polling, full error recovery and diagnostics.
Special processing logic is incorporated into the Gateways to support
the unique requirements of ATMs. The Gateway tracks the availability
of the network and remote application. If either becomes unavailable,
the Gateway will stop polling the ATM, which will prevent a user
from starting a transaction that cannot be successfully processed.
Messages from the ATM are validated and converted to a transport
protocol such as TCP or Frame Relay. At the central site, the message
can be reconverted back to the original legacy protocol with another
Gateway to work with existing systems or can be transferred directly
to the host in TCP/IP or Telnet.
Network
Diagrams
The following
diagrams illustrate different types of connections used by our ATM
customers.
| Application |
Diagram |
| Edge
Access |
C100 converts the ATM protocol directly to TCP/IP at the remote
location. |
| Edge
Access with Dial Support |
C101
provides conversion at the local ATM and support for remote
dial ATMs. In this drawing, each port on the C101 is using a
different terminal emulation. |
| Edge
Access with Multipoint Support |
C102
provides local conversion for an ATM and supporting a multipoint
circuit with several remote ATMs. |
Intelligent
Tunneling
|
The
remote C102 provides edge access conversion and local polling.
The data is routed to a central site C102 for conversion back
to a legacy protocol. The central site C102 emulates a terminal
and provides local response to host polls. The protocol at
the central site and remote ATMs do not have to be the same. |
| Central
Site Conversion |
C102 provides conversion from TCP/IP to a legacy serial protocol.
This conversion is useful when the ATMs have been converted
to TCP/IP or Telnet while the host still only supports the original
serial protocols. |
| Frame
Conversion |
G800
provides conversion for a legacy serial protocol ATM. The ATM's
data is converted to TCP/IP and sent to the remote host through
a Frame Relay network. The G800 includes a 56 KB DSU, providing
a single unit solution for an installation. |
| Central
Site Modem Pooling |
G1000
with a G1000 MPC converts dial ATMs to TCP/IP. |
| Central
Site Concentration |
G1000
consolidates many ATM connections in an ISDN or T1 link with
a RAS card. |
|
ATMs Consolidated Over X.25 |
G1000
supports many ATMs connected through X.25 PADs. |
| ATMs
Connected Over TCP/IP |
G1000
supports ATMs running Visa II protocol transport over TCP/IP.
The G1000 provides Visa intelligence and retransmission to a
remote TCP server. |
Benefits
The Gateway provides conversion at the most cost-effective and
efficient point in the network. The Gateways offer a range from
low-cost edge access devices to efficient high-density central site
solutions. This flexibility simplifies network design and implementation,
which simplifies migration of the network and equipment.
