Intelligent Tunneling
The Gateway C112 at the host site
emulates several terminals (in this example, Bisync 3270). The data
is converted to TCP/IP and sent through the network to another Gateway
(in this example, C112 and C110). The remote Gateway emulates a
host and polls the attached ATM. The central site C112 maps the
bisync 3270 address to the destination IP address of the remote
Gateway. The remote C112 can use the same set of host addresses
or different ones. Often times the remote Gateways are configured
with the same set of addresses to simplify the installation. The
remote Gateway can also use a different protocol than the central
site. In this illustration, the C110 uses Visa protocol for one
the attached ATM.
This approach preserves the investment
in the current system during the migration to a TCP/IP environment.
